The Administrative Director

Robert Topper

As the Administrative Director for Fayette EMS, part of my reponsibility is to oversee our billing department. Over the past few years there has been many changes in healthcare providers receive. With less money available, we are forced to work harder for our reimbursements from the insurance companies.

With these changes, many of you have called into our office confused with new billing procedures, co-insurances and deductibles. You may also be confused over the fact that an insurance that you may have had for yearrs now won't pay for certain procedures.

Fayette EMS feels that the best consumer is an educated consumer. Remember, we're just following the rules as they have been put to us. You,the insurance purchaser should completely understand what your insurance does and does not cover. Do you have ambulance comerage? Do you have a deductible? Did you know that you are responsible for the deductible amount on your bill?Do you have co-insurance that will pick up where medicare leaves off? these are some of the questions you need to ask the company you have your insurance through.

Another area that a lot of people misunderstand is authorizations. If you insurance requires you to pre-authorize you heathcare needs, that means you must pre-authorize ambulace transportation also. Even in cases of emergency, most companies give you 48 hours to have you ambulance trip authorized or they will not pay the bill. In those situation where you are required to obtain authorization and you do not, that rejection from you insurance company now becomes your responsibilty. Once again, become an educated consumer and ask you insurance provider what your responsibilities are. It will make our billing process much smoother and for you much less expensive.

If you ever have questions or concerns about an ambulance transport or bill, please contact our office Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at (724) 628-8610 and thank you for your support.

Thank you,

Robert Topper
